Stakeholders To help us find a problem area and get continuous feedback, we assembled a stakeholder group We talked to our stakeholders about a range of problem areas such as mobility, dexterity, and safety

The Problem We Are Addressing: Our mission statement: "To design a product that will help the elderly to be safe and independent by reliably alerting and aiding them in an emergency." We aim to do this by monitoring for smoke, carbon monoxide and natural gas in the user's home. Alert the user by combining auditory, visual and sensory cues to indicate the detection of a danger in the home

Aspects of the Design It will consist of a wearable monitor worn by the user, a base station, and microphones attached to normal smoke and gas alarms located around the house. The microphones will listen for alarms and alert the base station if an alarm is detected. The base station will then send an alert to the wristband. When the wristband receives an alert, it will vibrate and light up. The wristband will function as a normal watch with a large, clear display otherwise.

How to Detect Smoke & Gas Install Microphones on Normal Detectors The microphones work with ordinary gas and smoke detectors already installed in homes They listen for the alarm sound, and send an alert to the base station if they detect it The microphones could possibly be connected to the same power sources as the detectors
