Politics

Objectives During this section, you will: Examine how the media influences the way that the average citizen receives information about politics. Think critically about the difference between news coverage and entertainment. Analyze news programs to differentiate between the expression of opinion and reporting of news Use reading skills and strategies to understand and interpret informational texts.

Essential Question: How does multi-media influence the ability of the average citizen to become an informed and productive participant in the political processes of our nation?

Politics Activity 1: Persuading the Consumer Persuading the Citizen You are to read the second interview, which is of Frank Lutz (click on his photograph) regarding his studies of citizen voters in the article “Persuading the Consumer Persuading the Citizen” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/persuaders/themes/citizen.html. Summarize what you believe to be the key points of this interview. Write in complete sentences.
