Vocabulary: Chemical Reactions – involve two main kinds of changes that you can observe. a. formation of new substances b. changes in energy Precipitate – solid that forms from solution during a chemical reaction. Endothermic Reaction – is a reaction in which energy is absorbed. Exothermic Reaction – is a reaction that releases energy in the form of heat.

Pre Lab Title: Signs of Chemical Reactions Hypothesis: Different chemicals will produce different kinds of reactions. Materials per Group: 4 small plastic cups 8. Candle Plastic spoons 9. Sugar Tongs 10. Clay Matches 11. Sodium carbonate (powdered form) Graduated cylinder 12. Aluminum foil (10 cm2) Dilute hydrochloric 13. Copper Sulfate Solution acid Sodium carbonate solution

Data Table: Data Table Reaction Observations Predictions Observations Observations before reaction during reaction after reaction Sodium carbonate Powder + HCL acid Sugar + Heat Copper sulfate + Sodium carbonate solution
