The aesthetics The image used for the album advert are made up of four polaroid looking pictures that each show a band member, the vignette around the edge of the image and the warm colours in it represents the folk genre. The image also has a use in that it depicts each of the band members and their instrument, allowing the audience to gain a more physical relationship with the band. The typography is used effectively as the colour of the writing is light grey and contrasts with the black background and uses a font that is a folk style; and the album advert uses capital letters to address its audience. There is also a positive review from a top music magazine below the images of the band, again written in capital letters. At the bottom of the album advert there is the logo of both of the bands record labels, this is to draw some publicity to the record companies who would probably be funding the poster. This part od the advert conforms to the convention of having the record labels on the album, as they are not only present, but also are located at the bottom

advertisement The typography for the band name is larger than that for the album name, the band name is also written in capital letters; this is to draw the attention of the reader to the band name as they want this to be the first thing the viewer sees. This would be because the band name would be recognisable to a larger audience than the name of a new album. This is supported by the Gutenberg principle, where the text reads right making it easier for the viewer, and the band name is above the album name, meaning it would be read first. This all serves the purpose of drawing in a bigger audience as the band is more recognisable than their new album name. This may have been necessary as the album advert does not include a wed address allowing viewers to quickly find out more information, but conforms with the simplistic, minimalistic look that is common among album adverts. The reason for this could be that this band is smaller than the other two artists I have studied, therefore they might not have merchandised and therefore would not have as much need to provide additional information to its audience.

conclusion This album advert divulges from some of the conventions present in the other two adverts that I studied, yet it conforms to the basic idea of what they should look like by the use of the Gutenberg principle and the location of the record labels. The images used on the cover represent the folk nature of the album and therefore conform to what you would expect the photo for a folk album to look like. Its biggest dissent from the norm comes with the absence of a web address which would allow its audience to find out more information. Overall the album advert is effect due to its continues references to the genre, which is something that I will look to do when designing my own. However, I will use a weblink as this would free up space on my poster and is easily justifiable.
