Changes in mRNA levels do not correlate with changes in protein levels in upf1Δ and xrn1Δ cells. Changes in mRNA levels do not correlate with changes in protein levels in upf1Δ and xrn1Δ cells. Scatter plots were used to compare the average mRNA and protein expression ratios in upf1Δ (A) and xrn1Δ (B) cells. Expression ratios are defined as the fold-change in mutant versus wild-type cells. Average mRNA expression ratios are from He et al. (19). Protein expression ratios are derived from the upf1Δ data (85 proteins) and xrn1Δ data (87 proteins) listed in Table I. Pair-wise comparisons are plotted on a logarithmic scale, with the middle line indicating the line of equivalence and the outer two lines indicating 2-fold differences in expression. Philip L.
