You need everything for periods 1-4. Please make sure you have your: Agenda Pencil Homework Necessary materials for your first 4 classes. No cell phone or gum!

DO NOW: Take out your packet What are some things that you notice? What are some things that you wonder? Carli has some apps on her phone. Braylen has half the amount of apps as Theiss. Carli has three times the amount of apps as Theiss.

Try this… create an expression for: Ian scored 4 fewer goals than Julia. Use j to represent Julia’s number of goals.

Objective I will be able to Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers. So that I can learn how to accurately describe variables and create an expression (addition or subtraction) to determine an unknown value after analyzing information from a story problem. I will know I got it when I can verbally discuss and successfully write and evaluate at least 4 out of 6 expressions with my partners. 6.EE.A.2 6.EE.B.6

Vocabulary: Variable Evaluate Unit unit of measure Value

FYI… When naming variables in expressions, it is important to be very clear about what they represent. The units of measure must be included if something is measured. (Highlight on pg. 79 ex. 1)

Why is it important to describe the variable in an expression? The biggest reason to define the variable is to know what the expression represents. If something is measured, include units. If something is counted, include that it is a number of items.
