Presentation transcript:

Expanded Art Media Performamatics (eAMP) Artists are increasingly in need of individuals highly skilled in CS to realize works of art conceived to be disseminated in or on computer driven technology. In turn, technology personnel are expected to know more and more about the aesthetic concerns and specific computer needs of the ever-evolving visual art and design driven market. In this course, students from CS and Art will work together to create visual art with a strong base in technology. Their creations will be distributed rather than exhibited. We will focus on bridging space and allowing the viewer/user to interact with hybrid art. Beyond the aesthetic, this course will give students a head start in working on practical applications made for the new array of micro-portable-computer devices, which are becoming more powerful and sophisticated by the day. Projects: CS and Art students will work in teams, engaging such areas as interface design, interactive mapping, group image distribution over wireless devices, wireless device synchronization, video and interactive media, video and educational game design, and web art. Students may also interact with other Performamatics classes to realize more sophisticated collaborative projects in various virtual interactive tele-environments. Goals: (1) To have CS students work on technically precise projects and see the fruits of their collaborative labor manifest in visually fluent and aesthetically exciting forms capable of being remotely accessed on myriad devices. (2) To have Art students realize projects previously outside their own technical knowledge, using computer technology as a base. Any student coming out of the eAMP course should be technically savvy and computer literate enough, as well visually savvy and aesthetically literate enough, to work in support of creative technology driven fields such as media production, advertising design, commercial video production, educational media support and lab management, etc.
