Constant Volume Product Line This slide deck has been written to ensure you are familiar with the full line of Young Regulator Constant Volume Products. Constant Volume Product Line

Your Constant Volume Supermarket Young Regulator has the largest range of constant volume products.

What do they do? Any place you need a calibrated maximum airflow. Limit Flow to a preset volume regardless of static pressure. (over their effective range) They all feature some sort of moveable feature that reacts to the changing pressure/velocity to adjust the free area thereby keeping volume constant. These products all work in the same way. They have a very specific free area both in size and shape. As the air moves though the unit it forms a restriction. As the air speeds up, trying to move past the restriction, Any place you need a calibrated maximum airflow.

Applications Supply Exhaust Outside Air Delivery Correct Over-Supply Issues due to ductwork limitations Simplify air balance Bath/Kitchen Exhaust Correct for Stack Effect Force Return from stubborn areas Building Types Theses products are being used for more and more applications. Any where that we want to limit airflow to a specific maximum. They work well alone or in conjunction with other technologies like VAV or Zoning. They are used in both directions supply and exhaust/return. All sorts of buildings. Tall Buildings Hospitals Schools Office Buildings Hotels/Motels Condominiums

CVR - Constant Volume Regulator Precision molded body UL-94V-0 rated material UL-2043 Soft pliable edge seal Free area engineered both in size and shape Aero-Gate floats up as airflow increases Limits total flow over pressure range (0.2 to 0.8 InWC) Low- Pressure and High-Pressure units available No Power/ No Sensors – Just clever shapes The Constant Volume Regulator is an ingenious duct insert. It has been designed to limit airflow through the duct. As the air flowing starts moving faster it causes the Aero-Gate rise to block more of the free area. Simple in concept, highly engineered in design. Now you have an pressure independent tool to deliver the “right” amount of air. These units have been in use in Europe for many years. They are being added to more and more job specs. It is easy to see why. They are relatively inexpensive and provide a tool to build comfort and realize energy savings at the same time.

Size and Flows CVRs come in several flow ranges per diameter Choose a Diameter and Range ex. 6MH (60-105 cfm) Static Pressure Range 0.2-0.8 InWC Accuracy Set pt ±10% Set pt ±15% below 50CFM The CVR can be adjusted to provide a max flow within a specific range. There are multiple ranges for each diameter. Choosing the part you need is easy. Select the size then move down the table to the part that meets your flow needs. This table is on all of the CVR submittal sheets. If you need high or low pressure units there are similar tables. Unit Description Submittal CVR-xx Std. unit 0.2-0.8 InWC YR – CVR –xx CVR-HP-xx High Pressure 0.6-2.4 InWC YR – CVR-HP-xx CVR-LP-xx Low Pressure 0.1.-0.4 InWC YR – CVR-LP-xx

Performance Data Read pressure across the bottom axis then up to trace that reflects your settings Example @0.68 InWC we would expect the CVR to pass approximately 149 CFM Remember the units are indexed in M3/hr Conversions Volume M3/hr / 1.7 = CFM Pressure 250 pa= 1 InWC

Multi configurations CVR-XX CVRF1 CVREX Regulator by itself Regulator in a 1” deep duct insert Regulator in a Register Box Regulator in a box deep enough to accommodate a Fire/Radiation Damper Regulator in a low-profile side-tap enclosure. Optional: Fire/Radiation Damper Regulator set in Intake/Exhaust hood CVRs are available in several standard sheet metal enclosures. They feature heavy duty 24 gauge galvanized steel. They can be customized to your requirements. All fittings are made from heavy 24-gauge steel Fittings designed to be as low-profile as possible Custom fittings are our specialty One stop Air Distribution shopping

CVP – Constant Volume Regulator Plus Precision molded body UL-94V-0 rated material UL-2043 Soft pliable edge seal Tool-free Flow Adjustment Limits total flow over pressure range (0.2 to 2.0 InWC) 4” and 5” 25 to 130 CFM 6” 50 to 275 CFM Anti-Microbial Plastic No Power/ No Sensors Made in USA The CVP works in much the same way as the CVR. It depends on the initial setting of the damper blade rather that restricted free area to cover it’s range so one unit covers the entire range. Tool-free Adjustment means you push the white triangle to the CFM you want to pass. Install in the duct or fitting. DONE. It covers a wider range than the CVR all the way to 2.0 InWC. The CVP is molded and assembled in the USA

CVP Performance Curves 25 to 130 CFM 50 to 275 CFM The 4” and 5” units use the same body so they perform the same. Notice how consistent the performance curves are, nice and flat! The inset on the page shows the areas beyond the part’s normal curve.

Multi configurations CVP-XX CVPF2 CVPF5 CVPF8 CVPFD Regulator by itself Regulator in a Register Box Regulator in a box deep enough to accommodate a Fire/Radiation Damper Regulator in a low-profile side-tap enclosure. Optional: Fire/Radiation Damper Regulator and Fire Damper in a UL Rated Assembly. The CVP also comes in a variety of sheet metal fittings. And for the first time we are offering a UL Rated fire damper assembly on our straight through box (F5). All fittings are made from heavy 24-gauge steel Fittings designed to be as low-profile as possible Custom fittings are our specialty One stop Air Distribution shopping

UL Rated Fire Assembly! Young Regulator can now offer a UL Rated Assembly: Constant Volume Regulator Enclosure Dynamic Fire Damper Grille Complies with: UL 2043 Heat and Visible Smoke UL 555C Dynamic Fire Damper UL – R38089 UL – 8218 UL Rated assemblies available in standard sizes. Fire/radiation dampers also available in other fittings. CVPFD

Constant Volume Dampers Round Constant Volume Dampers work in a similar way to CV regulators. When air moves though the part itmoves the asymmetrical blade. As air speeds up the blade closes more free area. Thusly holding flow very constant. Dampers are rated for much higher flows and pressures. (up to 4InWC) The dampers are made of heavy galvanized steel. It features soft lip seals to fit tight into round duct or flex duct.

Constant Volume Dampers Adjustment Insert a 2 mm allen key through the small hole in the top of the adjustment device. CW Increases the flow CCW Decrease flow The device is calibrated in M3/hour (CFM soon) M3/hr divided by 1.7= CFM Damper adjustment is straight forward. Using an allen key turn the center weight in the adjustment device to the desired airflow reading. Multi-level rectangular units will have individual adjustment devices for each level. Label will soon be calibrated on both meters and CFM.

Constant Volume Dampers Round Choose your Size and Flow Rate Min value is approximate and driven by Pressure drop. Round CVDs come in High or Low units. Find the diameter and flow rate you need.

Constant Volume Dampers Rectangular Rectangular Constant Volume Dampers work just like their round cousins. They come in a variety of sizes up to 24x24 and will carry up to 5900 cfm. They are designed to work with flanged ductwork.

Size and Flow Rates Heights above 12” are double deckers Find sizes the duct you are connecting to. Then choose the flow you want. The addition of a motor will allow the flow rate to change between two flow set points. All of the sizes noted in dark blue can be fitted with a motor. teen give you 2 Maximum Flows Heights above 12” are double deckers

Static Pressure (inWC) Savings Potential Case Study Limiting Exhaust to 62.1 requirements Consider a 10-story condo block with a central exhaust chase and a rooftop ventilator (in Boston, MA). With an open 6” exhaust duct @ 0.1inwc, it will cost roughly $226 annually to condition the air required to replace the exhaust. If, because of proximity to the fan, stack effect, and wind loads, the pressure at the top of the chase is 0.4inwc instead, then Cost= $488. A CVR will save $262 annually! Flow Rates and Costs - 6” Exhaust Vent Static Pressure (inWC) Uncontrolled Flow (CFM) Annual Cost to Condition1 “New Air” Annual Cost to Condition1 w/105 CFM CVR Savings 0.8 330 $702 $226 $476 0.6 280 $604 $378 0.4 225 $488 $262 0.2 155 $338 $112 0.1 105 -- 1 Cost figures from Paul Raymer, “Cost of Ventilation” Ventilation News and Views Aug 2013 ( Boston: HDD(55) =3299, Gas= $1.28/therm electricity=$0.18 kWh) This study compares the cost of “reconditioning” exhaust air if more than optimum volume is pulled from the building.

More Considerations IAQ Indoor Air Quality Variable Speed Motors The CVR controls exhaust across all of the spaces. Ensure that air changes happen! If the motor changes speeds, pressure will change and therefore flow from the space will change Not if you have CVRs installed! Uncontrolled, upper floors closer to the exhaust blower will see much more flow into the chase. Stack effect can make that even worse. Constant volume devices will allow one to pull appropriate amounts from each space. No one wants to live with yesterday’s onions. Variable speed motors provide a lot of flexibility. But if the ventilation system cannot adjust to higher or lower airflow we could be pushing exhaust from one floor into other units.
