Working groups: How will (or can) ICT change the way we think about the internationalization of teaching and learning? How can UBC integrate globalism without losing its national /regional /local character? What ethical challenges is UBC likely to face in pursuit of its internationalization goals? Should UBC seek to increase the international diversity of its students, faculty and staff? If so, why and how?

Benefits & challenges

Some benefits (expected outcomes) Networking in a highly decentralized context; Visibility and recognition of achievements and contributions to the internationalization efforts; Shared understanding of the benefits of an Intentional approach to comprehensive internationalization; Time to see each other, reflect and reconnect in a learning context; Professional and skills development (for staff): organizing, presenting, sharing, etc. Team building activity: individuals and inter-units;

Some challenges Develop interest and a learning and sharing culture (paradox in a University?); Not really. Community of practice. Frequency (more than once a year) vs Duration (full day or less?) Diversity of participants: content challenge, but also an opportunity to know the other; Faculty’s participation How to attract faculty members other than to present; Identify needs and develop programs? Results from a survey on internationalization;
