Course Description Gain hands-on engineering design experience through a well-planned project based active learning course. Practice conceptual design, detailed design, building & testing an artifact. Apply planning and management skills in the design journey, from idea generation to testing the model. 5 5

Course Outcomes (ABET _ SOs) ABET has 7 student outcomes (1-7), some of which are included in this course. Let us first know them all and then concentrate on those addressed in our course 6 6

Course Outcomes (ABET _ SOs) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics (2) an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors (3) an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences (4) an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts 7 7

Course Outcomes (CLOs) Describe engineering design process considering the conflicting interests of different stakeholders. Devise a work plan for design project including project charter, WBS, LRC, PCM, Calendar, and Gantt chart. Define the design problem with stress on objectives, metrics, and constraints using data collected from multiple sources Demonstrate design functions and their means of realization Compare different design alternatives for best alternative selection Integrate knowledge of science, mathematics with engineering principles to optimize selected design alternative carry out effective manufacturing plan and testing procedures to produce a functioning prototype. Document details of the design process, both orally and written, using necessary supporting materials Evaluate team ability to achieve goals 11 11

How much grade each of them and when it is required? Which is individual and which is team? How many marks for individual /team work? When will be the course celebration/course makeup? CHEATING Students are NOT ALLOWED to use Smart devices during any exam. Cheating cases caught during any exam will be reported to college management through course coordinator immediately. First instance of cheating in the Quiz or Test will result in ZERO marks in that Quiz or Test. Second instance of cheating in Quiz or Test will result in F grade in the course. The college management will decide further actions in this regard. Cheating in End-Term Activities will result in F grade in the course.

Active Learning Expectation Participation in class, both to small groups and to the entire class; be given problems that you think (at first) you do not know how to solve; find some of the classroom instructions to not be immediately clear; find that other students have different interpretations of what is expected during class; 19 19

Active Learning Expectation help other students understand the course material at the request of the course faculty; be regularly invited to suggest ways to improve the class; be asked by a team member to modify the way you behave; and listen to the instructor when he is speaking or to another student if he is giving a presentation; and be quite active during most class periods. 20 20

Classroom Expectations Complete the assigned readings and activities before class. Attend and be on time for the class meetings. Actively participate in all team activities and tasks. Treat your teammates with respect. Avoid disruptive behaviors in class (e.g., side conversations, sleeping, etc.) Do your best to produce high quality work. Retain all of your work for the course in a “Course Portfolio”. 21 21
