Ways to Analyze Evidence

It all has to point back to your claim

My claim is that Squeaky is “protecting Raymond and, ultimately, herself.” At the beginning of the story, Squeaky describes how she doesn’t like it when people ask her about Raymond. She says she’d “rather knock you down …” This shows that she is fiercely protective of her brother Raymond. Her first reaction to is physically fight back, not talk or listen. When she does this, she is also protecting herself because she won’t have to feel the hurt of having a brother that is different. If she can make someone else hurt, then she won’t have to feel the pain of feeling different or inferior.

WAYS TO ANALYZE EVIDENCE This shows…because… It is important to notice… __________means____________, therefore __________ This is significant because…. Even though……Squeaky….

Let’s try your first body paragraph: Look back at your claim. Introduce your evidence for this paragraph. Story-tell Summarize Quote --Analyze (Explain) why this evidence proves your claim.
