CALCULATING A REPLACEMENT TIME a/k/a EQUIVALENT ELECTRONIC TIME (EET) 2017-2018
What is a “Replacement Time”? In the case of the failure of the main electronic timing system (System A), the results of the electronic back-up system (System B) will be valid as per the requirements for calculating a correction. In the case of the failure of both the main and back-up systems Hand (manual) times may be used in the official results after a correction has been calculated. Copies of Replacement Time (EET) calculations must be submitted with TDTR’s forwarded to assigned U.S. TWG representatives.
CALCULATION OF THE CORRECTION 1. Calculate the difference between the times from system B or those taken by hand* and the electronic system A times of the 5 competitors starting before the missing time and the 5 starting after or, if necessary, the 10 nearest competitors. (A Forerunner is not a competitor!) Divide the sum of the 10 time differences by 10 and round, if required, to give the correction. Apply the correction to the calculated hand time of the competitor without an electronic time. *Hand (manual) timekeeping is required for all levels of competition.
CALCULATION FORM The following presentation is an aid to help you understand the basics of the calculation.

VALUE OF A REPLACEMENT TIME A Replacement Time that is calculated in accordance with the rules is a valid time! Accuracy of a hand-calculated replacement time must be verified. ACR/ICR 611.3.2 and 611.3.2.1
ALTERNATIVE CALCULATION METHODS: Excel spreadsheets Split Second & Vola HINTS: Do NOT use Forerunners’ times Do NOT use DNF start times When missed times are in close proximity, both systems allow for calculation of multiple replacement times Both systems may require a dedicated computer Electronic timekeeping equipment operator should not be responsible for these calculations Regardless of the system you prefer, do not wait until race day to learn how to use it!
CALCULATION: USING A SPREADSHEET – times in all seconds
CALCULATION: USING SPLIT SECOND e. g CALCULATION: USING SPLIT SECOND e.g. Calculating Missed “A” Time) using “B” times
CALCULATION: USING St/Fn ToD FILL IN HEADER! Key in: Bib #’s Start ToD Finish ToD Electronic Times: Automatically entered by software. (If not working in actual race rile, input Electronic Times manually.) Print for review Select “OK” to auto assign EET in race file Complete EET & automatically assign replacement time
CALCULATION: USING Elapsed Time e. g CALCULATION: USING Elapsed Time e.g. Calculating “A” (Electronic Time) using “B” or “calculated Hand Time” (Elapsed) FILL IN HEADER! Key in: Bib # Elapsed Times EET not complete until Step 3 completed Print for review Select “OK”; time auto assigned in race file 3. Select
CALCULATION: USING Elapsed Time e. g CALCULATION: USING Elapsed Time e.g. Calculating “A” (Electronic Time) using “B” or “calculated” Hand Time (Elapsed) Regardless of process used: “ToD” or “Elapsed” verify the following: “EET APPLIED”
CALCULATION: USING VOLA Refer to VOLA PPT for updated information
COMPUTER-GENERATED REPLACEMENT TIMES Just because a replacement time is calculated by a computer doesn’t mean it is correct. Accuracy of a computer- calculated replacement time must be verified!
