Annual General Meeting La Huninguoise 9 November 2017 Basel GAA Annual General Meeting La Huninguoise 9 November 2017

Agenda The Chairman’s welcome Secretary’s report Public Relation Officer’s report Treasurer’s report Code Officers’ reports Election of officers and members of the executive committee Objectives 2018 Any other business

Chairman’s welcome Memorable year in Basel GAA – first club silverware for winning Zurich ladies football tournament and national TV appearance. Congrats to Carla, Louise and Sinead! Success continued with Basel men’s team providing 7 players for Basel/Zurich B amalgamation. Representation at several tournaments including Munich (ladies and men’s football), Vienna, Rennes, Maastricht and Duesseldorf (men’s football). Camogie participation in Hamburg representing the Switzerland team. Challenges: Difficult to develop a social side to keep club together – family time, training fatigue and globalisation (jet-setting travel to Colombia, Chile, India, Roscommon etc.) Difficult decisions needed in 2018 – training numbers are low, career and family commitments will remain constant. What can we offer potential players to maintain interest? – social outlet, recreation, GAA orientation for 1st generation Irish kids etc. Vision for end of 2018: Realistic expectation of what the club must deliver. Christmas party in 2017! Social events with the aim to recruit new players based on a fun and friendly sporting atmosphere Reduced focus on attending tournaments but listening to needs of players e.g. to practice skills, play local matches and feel part of the club. Subscriptions cannot be imposed without engagement. 3 year plan for building a core group of players with mixed age range and ability, along with a feasibility study for running under-age training – Cul Camps fully supported by parents committee.

Secretary’s report Some new club members, including youngsters! Regular training sessions on Sunday mornings Thanks to Matthieu for keeping them going! Pitch situation still isn’t resolved Currently no pitches available in Basel-Stadt Pitches can be rented on Sundays on an « event » basis, ie. organising a friendly match/tournament/special occasion – but for regular training purposes Surrounding Basel-Land pitches are also either overbooked or only free at inconvenient times or considered too far away Contacting Rugby club was difficult – new contact recently approached, outcome tbd… Same problem for French side Attendance at several tournaments – see code officers’ reports Coach diplomed for Hurling and Men football
