Do Now Using the graphic novel handout of chapter 17 in The Scarlet Letter, choose one of the following questions to answer: A.) Is the graphic novel excerpt a good depiction (portrayal) of the characters and the plot? Explain. B.) Create an argumentative essay question for this graphic novel excerpt. Start with “Should.” Objective: Students will be able to analyze textual evidence of characters’ adversities and overcoming adversities. Show any owed homework.

Objective: Students will be able to analyze textual evidence of characters’ adversities and overcoming adversities. Agenda Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will share with the whole class. Work Period: -Students will be assigned a chapter (16, 17 or 18) and will analyze the textual evidence (using sentence starters). Discussion Sharing & Reflections: Students will share their analysis of the textual evidence. How were we able to improve our analytical skills today?
