Need Analysis, Objectives, Criteria and Constraints Tutorial 3 Need Analysis, Objectives, Criteria and Constraints Presented by: Dr. Raja Rizwan Hussain College of Engineering, King Saud University, Riyadh, KSA.

Question Identify the potential (possible) market, establish customer needs, and then set up design objectives, design constraints (limitation), and criteria (measure) for design evaluation for the following devices:

Self Driving Car by Google

Self Driving Car Potential market Customer Needs People with limitation of visual capability (blind) Daily commuters (people who travel a lot) Customer Needs Self driving automobile Voice recognition Satellite assisted to reach final destination Maintain prescribed speed and distance with surrounding cars Nearby cars detection to avoid accident Setting for aggressive/conservative driving Vehicle speed and acceleration optimization for fuel efficiency Follow path of road safely Satellite communication to avoid traffic jam, construction or accidents Routing to gas station when fuel is needed Hotel and restaurant destination choices Estimated time of arrival display Warning system for inappropriate/dangerous operation

Design objectives Criteria Constraints Primary objective: Design an self driving car that assisted by satellite to reach final destination, with voice recognition, nearby cars detection, etc. Secondary objective: The car can calculate time for arrival to the destination , hotel and gas station, can give recommendation, etc. Criteria Safety, price, easy to use, less maintenance, features Constraints Cost not exceed: SAR Minimum capacity of passengers: Nos. Maximum speed: km/h

Design evolutions for the following device; Self-driving car Cellphone charger powered by kinetic energy Automatic floor cleaning Futuristic smart car

Preview; Case No. 2 Cellphone charger powered by kinetic energy Convert kinetic energy to electricity. It can be drawn from activities like jogging, walking, driving, dancing and cycling.

The device can be strapped around your shoes as well The device can be strapped around your shoes as well. As you go out to practice and play, it generates charge which can be sent to a device via USB cable.

Preview; Case No.3 Automatic Floor Cleaning

Preview; Case No.4 Futuristic Smart Car
