Graduation Project Thesis: Redesign of Faisal Street-Nablus Dima Aquil Qamhiyeh Dina Marwan Abdulhaq May 2009

Introduction Why Faisal street ? Study area, problems, and methodology. Alternatives ( Arterial Management System, a Tunnel (underpass) .

Why Faisal street ? Arterial street: Central part (CBD) Institutions: that connects the western part of the city with the eastern one Central part (CBD) Institutions: Municipality/ Police center / Post office / Al-Watany hospital

Study Area The study area starts from Al-Salam mosque in Haifa street to Al-Ballor Hall in Faisal street

Problems Traffic problems: Congestion Problems Delay Problems Safety Problems Geometry Problems

References as AASHTO 2001, and the European Standard. The methodology Data collection. Data analysis References as AASHTO 2001, and the European Standard.

Through Traffic: Peak hour (1:00-2:00). License plate counts. Peak periods ( 7:00-9:00 am ) and (1:00-300 pm). Peak hour (1:00-2:00). Maximum Peak hour volume (PHV) = 360 vehicle/hr.

Arterial Development and Management System Alternative Re-planning of the arterial. Widening and reallocation of space as needed. Separating through traffic from local traffic .

Arterial Development and Management System Alternative Study Area From Al-Salam Mosque to Al-Ballor Hall We divided the study area into three parts:

Part One

Part Two

Part Three

Arterial Development and Management System Alternative Due to streets’ widths and existing of commercial and residential buildings in the first and third part of the study area we applied the system on second part only.

Arterial Development and Management System Alternative’s cross section

Design criteria For a design speed of 45 mph and urban arterial highway : Super elevation (e)=6% Friction factor (f) =0.145

Underpass (Tunnel) Alternative Building a tunnel was the second alternative to solve the streets’ problems. The Tunnel was for through traffic only This will separates the through traffic completely from the local traffic and doesn’t affect the traffic on the original street over the tunnel.
