Presentation transcript:

Scientific Method A way of thinking about nature involving the use of certain skills to solve problems in an orderly manner.

1. DEFINING/STATING THE PROBLEM USUALLY ASKED IN THE FORM OF A QUESTION. EX: Which brand of diaper is the most absorbent, Luvs, Pampers or Huggies?

EX: I believe Huggies are the most absorbent diapers. 2. FORM YOUR HYPOTHESIS Possible answer to a question based on gathered information. EX: I believe Huggies are the most absorbent diapers.

3. Make Observations Any information we gather by using our senses (seeing, hearing, touching, smelling) EX: I can see when water is poured onto the three diapers, Huggies absorbs the greatest amount.

EX: Pouring water onto three differing 4. Experiment An activity designed to test a hypothesis. EX: Pouring water onto three differing brands of diapers and measuring which absorbs the greatest amount of water.

5. Analyze Data Information collected from observations & experiments. When you are analyzing data, you generally place your information in the form of a chart or graph.

EX: My hypothesis was correct. Huggies are the most absorbent diapers. 6. Draw Conclusions An answer to the question. EX: My hypothesis was correct. Huggies are the most absorbent diapers.

Let others know the results of your experiment. 7. Communicate Results Let others know the results of your experiment. EX: I am entering the science fair to let our school know which diaper is the most absorbent out of Luvs, Huggies, or Pampers.
