Welcome back ~Mrs. Sampson~ Please return to your seats from yesterday. You need everything for periods 1-4, INCLUDING YOUR LUNCH. Please take out any forms and review agenda on side board.

Binder people, please pass out binders. 3. Activator: Take out your math packet and notebook. In your notebook put today’s date in the corner, and Activator on the first line. Answer: i. Write a ratio for the following description: Kaleel made three times as many basket as John during basketball practice. ii. Write a ratio of the following description: For every 6 cups of flours in a bread recipe, there are 2 cups of milk.

September 5, 2014 [Day A] SWBAT: create multiple ratios from a context in which more than two quantities are given.

September 5, 2014 [Day A]   Boys 3 Girls 2 It takes 1 and a half groups of girls to equal the number of boys

September 5, 2014 [Day A] 1. You traveled out of state this summer. 2. You did not travel out of state this summer. 3. You have at least on sibling. 4. You are an only child. 5. Your favorite class is math. 6. Your favorite class is not math.

September 5, 2014 [Day A] My own ratio compares __________________. the number of students wearing glasses to the number of students not wearing glasses 5 : 16 My ratio is: _______________ the number of baseball players with children to the number of baseball players without children

September 5, 2014 [Day A] With your partner, write a situation that describes the ratios in Exercise 2. Remember that order matters. For example: 1 to 12 For every 1 year, there are 12 months. (NOT: For every 1 month, there are 12 years.)

September 5, 2014 [Day A] What is a ratio? How do we write ratios? Describe a situation that could be modeled with the ratio 4:1.

September 5, 2014 [Day A] Who can give me an example of a ratio relationship that is interesting to you? Some clues that indicate a ratio relationship: To For each For every Multiplicative comparison (twice, four times as many)

September 5, 2014 [Day A] Read and study the description of the data in the chart. Are the ratios 2:5 and 5:2 the same? Why or why not? Without looking back at the description, what is the chart about? Based on the survey, should the company order more pink fabric or more orange fabric? What is the ratio of the number of bolts of pink fabric to number of bolts of orange fabric you think the company should order? Someone said 5 to 3 and my friend said 3 to 5. Are those the same? Is a ratio of 3 to 5 the same as a ratio of 5 to 3? Remember, the ordering of the words in the description of the ratio relationship is what determines the order of the numbers in the ratio.

September 5, 2014 [Day A] EXIT TICKET: write the answers in your notebook Give two different ratio with a description of the ratio relationship using the following information: There are 15 male teachers in the school. There are 35 female teachers in the school. HOMEWORK: Problem Set 1 #3 (page S.3) Lesson 2: Ratios: Problem Set #1-2 (page S.6)
