Learning Target 02/04/16: Content: SWBAT analyze the facts, rumors, and biases in the podcast Serial for the purpose of creating an argument that is free of fallacious reasoning or exaggerated evidence and thoroughly supported. Literacy and Numeracy: Students will listen to episode 12, “What We Know” of Serial and take notes that will assist in the writing of an argument essay based the murder of Hae Min Lee and her killer. Democracy and 21st Century Skills: SWBAT utilize the information from the podcast and other outside sources to write an argumentative essay that has evidence from multiple accurate and credible sources.

Episode 11 Review Bias Prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. Rumor A currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth.

Episode 11 Review “Rumors” Consider the rumors that have been spread about Adnan, how might bias play in to these rumors? Or how might these rumors affect one’s bias? Adnan admits to stealing from the mosque. Does this justify him as a serial killer? Do these rumors have any relevance to the killing of Hae? Are they evidence of bad character?
