What is a Stimulant?

Stimulants Stimulants are substances that raises levels of physiological or nervous activity in the body.

Types of stimulants Cocaine MDMA(Ecstasy) Methamphetamine Adderall Amphetamines

Toxicity of cocaine Cocaine can damage the digestive system, immune system, cardiovascular system and urogenital system. Cocaine induced seizures. Intravenous cocaine injection is also one of the important ways of AIDS infection. Cocaine also affects people's reproductive system. Cocaine has very strong drug dependence. (Addiction to drugs)

MDMA(Ecstasy/Molly) MDMA: Type: Stimulant Street Names: Ecstasy, Molly, Mandy, or MD Effects on the body: Enhances sense of sight, sound smell and touch Calmness and relaxation Long-Lasting energy Empathy for others Euphoria Overdose can cause seizures, foaming at the mouth and a spike in body temperature Legal/Social issues surrounding it: Any use of MDMA is considered abuse Addictive? Can be addictive, but depends on the type and amount used Route of Administration: Orally or inhaled through the nose Consequences: Depression, Reduced concentration, memory problems, and tremors or twitches

AMPHETAMINES Common Forms Speed: Usually in powder form (crushed) Base: Paste (sticky, waxy or oily) Ice: Crystal Administration Swallow by mouth, Snort through nasal, Injection intravenous or smoked. Illegal to make, sell, possess or use unless under medical supervision. Slang: Speed, Crank, Whiz, White, Shabu, Shard or Glass.

Methamphetamine Example: Crystal Meth Other Names: Meth, Dope, Speed Symptoms: Weight loss, psychological, paranoid Incarceration, isolation, loss in concept of time Meth has become so easy to make now however the effects of the homemade meth are psychologically damaging and can become permanent This drug is highly addictive , so that you will not even realize you’re an addict until it’s too late. Social Consequences: Loss of family, losing self respect and the respect of your family.

Adderall

Adderall Commonly used names for adderall are: Red Dexies Speed Wake-ups Pep pills Effects of adderall on the body is increased focus and improved impulsive behavior. Adderall can be addictive with effects similar to meth and with prolonged use of Adderall can lead to increased chances of addiction. Adderall can be administered orally

Effects of the drug on the body Short Term Some short term effects include Alertness, focus, sleepiness, loss of appetite, increase blood pressure, high Heart rate, and a increase in body temperature. Long Term(withdrawal) Long term effects typically vary with the drug but common side effects include and are not limited to: Extreme weight loss Random bouts of exhaustion Headaches Cardiorespiratory issues

Reason why people take stimulants Reasons why people take stimulants are to Increase Alertness, Weight loss, acquire more energy, or obtain a sort of high. Historically used to treat asthma and other respiratory problems as well as other conditions. Drugs such as nicotine and theophylline which is similar to caffeine

Route of administration? Stimulants can be taken either through snorting, smoking, pills, even dissolving and injections Route of administration?

Social and legal issues surrounding the drug Stimulants can cost you your friends and any activity you enjoy, and you can be prosecuted for a felony if the stimulant is not prescribed
