Making On-the-Job Development a Daily Habit Frequent Debriefs Regularly debrief as a team after meetings and milestones Block an hour on the calendar to debrief with the entire team within 2-3 business days of a: Big internal or client meeting Major milestone Major deliverable submission   After a significant event… Take 5-10 minutes during standing team meetings to share recent insights and identify actions for improvement.   At regular team meetings… Make quick “hallway conversation” debriefs a daily practice. Conversations can be as short as a couple of minutes on the way back to the team room after a meeting or over IM.   In everyday interactions… Examples of effective debrief questions: Adopt a learner’s mindset How would you describe our recent experience? What didn’t work or isn’t working? What did you notice? What did you learn from this? What went well? Where are the opportunities now? What has worked or is working? What should we do differently? How can we build upon our team’s strengths? Where should we go from here? Amy This has been one of our most popular PBD tools thus far. The act of debriefing provides an invaluable opportunity to learn from the past. It increases reflection, and promotes the exchange of forward-focused feedback. The idea is that we incorporate the action of debriefs – both formal and informal – into our everyday one-on-one and team interactions. It doesn’t have to be led by a leader … anyone on the team can initiate debriefs. Some guidelines are provided here in the toolkit. Specific insights from experimentation: Frequent Debriefs were the most impactful within working groups and on work streams within larger teams Accountability is important; assign one person to assure debriefs are happening until it becomes habit Know that debriefing may be considered an extra agenda item in the beginning; time-box it to ensure efficient use of time Debriefing with the clients themselves (versus just the Deloitte client team) can provide valuable development nuggets and improve overall relationship I’ll flip it back to Jess to take you through Meeting Shadows. Be open and encourage participation Establish roles Take action
