Overview Freewrite Ahmed Concluding Thoughts Wrap-up

Freewrite What is a question that you have about Ahmed’s post? What is something that Ahmed made you think about, reflect on? We will go around the room and everyone will share.

Ahmed Politics of Citation: “citation as a rather successful reproductive technology, a way of reproducing the world around certain bodies.” (Ahmed 2013) “They are comfortable, like a body that sinks into a chair that has received its shape over time.” (Ahmed 2013)

Ahmed Small Groups (2-4): How do you understand knowledge to be produced? Reproduced? Have you begun to encounter some “founding figures,” or “Key players” in your field? Who are they? What do you know about them? Do you know of any people in your field that aren’t always recognized for their contributions? What do you know about them? How does your field treat issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion? What do you notice about these ideas in your field? Major? Coursework? This class?

Concluding Thoughts Speaking to systems, structures, and institutions “If privilege means going the way things are flowing, then letting things flow, will mean that’s who ends up going.” (Ahmed)

Wrap-up Today: Ahmed and the politics of citation and knowledge (re)production Next time: Studio Come with whatever you need to work on doing research for your project Friday there is class Short Response #3 due Friday
