Overview of AB 288 Target Demographic AB 288: Spirit of the Law Target Demographic Students who may not already be college bound or who are underrepresented in higher education Goals Seamless pathways to college for CTE/Transfer, improving high school graduation rates, and or college/career readiness Partners Must be a community college district and a school district within its service area Courses Must be part of a Pathway May be college level/CTE and/or developmental math or English Enrollment Max of 15 units (4 courses)/term Eric
Overview of AB 288 Apportionment Colleges may claim apportionment AB 288: Spirit of the Law Apportionment Colleges may claim apportionment Course may be offered at the high school campus and closed to the general public Approval Agreement must be presented to each district’s board twice at subsequent meetings that are open to the public (once as an information item and again for public comments and board vote) Agreement must be submitted to CCCCO for approval before students enrollment in program Reporting Additional reporting requirements including data sharing agreement Eric

MUSD Perspectives Selection of students most academically prepared in initial stages Build skills and knowledge to include desired populations Promote program in AVID classrooms and parent meetings, parent education classes Communication to community: press releases, website, etc. Hire district teachers who have a master’s degree in a specific area (not education) Community impact: Cohort of 30 students completing the 4-year program Each student saves approximately $70,000 in UC costs Each graduating cohort saves approximately $2.1 million dollars Catherine
