Engage with the public and use the media to Making Change Happen: Shifting public attitudes and mobilising grass-roots support Engage with the public and use the media to promote real stories about refugees and migrants Unlock our community power and make new allies; Humanise the debate and ground it in reality, not myth; Create a new common narrative about the need for change.

Use that leverage to engage decision makers; Making Change Happen: Using community power to get those with executive power to take action Show there’s a big cross-section of the community who care about welcoming and improving the lives of refugees and migrants; Use that leverage to engage decision makers; Highlight problems, propose solutions, and have very clear asks; Look out for political opportunities that can tip the balance in our favour. Change policy = improve the lives of refugees and migrants

Birmingham Declaration Goals Improved decision making, so protection is granted to all those who need it Improved access to good quality legal advice and representation An end to the indefinite detention of asylum seekers and migrants An end to destitution, by providing sufficient support to all asylum seekers to ensure that they can meet their essential living needs while in the UK Permission to work for asylum seekers whose case has taken more than six months, or they have been refused and are temporarily unable to return home Free access to healthcare for all asylum seekers while they are in the UK Asylum seekers to be welcomed & befriended on arrival, and offered free language tuition so they can fully participate and contribute to the local community All asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to be treated with dignity and respect
