By: Gabrielle Herrington A Brief Autobiography By: Gabrielle Herrington
background My name is Gabrielle Herrington. I am a 29 year old wife and mother of two amazing children: Cameron (6) and Caleigh (2). I was born and raised in Natchez, Mississippi to extraordinary parents – Bill and Delilah Green. My dad is a successful small business owner. Sadly, we lost my mom to cancer a few months ago, but I know her spirit remains with us.
Dreams of being an educator It was always my dream to be a teacher. As far back as I can remember, I imagined myself in the classroom, as an adult, teaching a group of enthusiastic pupils. Playing school was a favorite pastime of mine. I loved to pull out my textbooks and pretend they were teacher manuals and use them to instruct a roomful of imaginary students.
college When it was time for me to choose a major in college, I obviously chose education – elementary education to be exact. I attended Copiah- Lincoln Community College (Co-Lin) in my hometown of Natchez for two years (2006 – 2008), then transferred to The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg for roughly another two years (2008 – 2011), where I received my Bachelor’s. Later, I went on to receive a Master’s of Education from Alcorn State University.
career Upon graduation, I interviewed at two schools and was offered a job at both. I chose to stay in my hometown and teach at a school I attended as a child, Susie B. West Elementary. I taught fifth grade for a year, fourth grade for a year, and am now teaching first grade for the third year.
A Bright future I look forward to working with you and your child this school year. If we work as partners, together we can push your child to reach his/her full potential. I love each of my students and want nothing but the best for them in the future.
