FACTS Temperature ranges from 430 Celsius to below -170 degrees Celsius. It is also the smallest terrestrial planet and the closest to the sun. Mercury is not much larger than Earths moon.

FACTS Mercury is made up of dense metal iron. Flat plains and craters on its surface. No water and not much of atmosphere. The craters have not worn away overtime.

ATMOSPHERE Mass is small and it has weak gravity. Gas particles can easily escape into space. Scientist have detected small amounts of sodium and other gases around Mercury. There is such little gravity heat escapes at night time.
