OUR FESTIVALS

Festivals are celebrated all over the world Festivals are celebrated all over the world. In our country we celebrate many festivals. We dress up in our best clothes and eat nice food. We share sweets with our neighbours. We celebrate national as well as religious festivals.

our National festivals. Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti are our National festivals.

Independence Day We celebrate independence Day on 15th August. On this day there is a grand parade at the Red Fort in Delhi. The prime Minister unfurls the National Flag. We all sing the National Anthem Jana-gana-mana.

Republic Day We celebrate Republic Day on 26th January . On this day we salute our National Flag. The President of our country takes the salute of the grand parade at rajpath. Thousands of people take part in the parade.

Gandhi Jayanti Gandhi Jayanti is the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. It is on 2nd October. On this day we remember him by singing Bhajans. He is known as the “Father of the Nation”

RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS Religious festivals are:- Dessehra Deepawali Guruparva Id Christmas

Dussehra Dussehra is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. On this day , Lord Rama killed Ravana . On this day, effigies of Ravana, kumbhkarna and Meghnada are burnt.

Deepawali Deepawali is a Hindu festival of lights. It is a festivals of lights. It celebrated in the memory of Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya. Houses and shops are cleaned and decorated with lamps. We worship the Goddess Lakshmi. Crackers and fireworks are burnt.

Guruparva Guruparva is the festival of Sikhs. Birthdays of their Gurus are celebrated as guruparvas. People go the Gurudwaras and listen to Gurbani from their holy book- Guru Granth Sahib. There is free Langar in the gurudwaras.

Id Muslims celebrate id festivals. They wear new clothes and go to the mosque for prayer. Food and clothes are distributed among the poor. A special dish called Sewain is prepared on this day.

CHRISTMAS Santa Claus brings gifts for the children. Christmas falls on the 25th December. It is the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ. It is the festival of Christians. They go to the church for prayers and sing hymns. People decorate their houses and the Christmas tree. Santa Claus brings gifts for the children.

Other Festivals Some other festivals are Holi, Baisakhi, Pongal, Durga Puja, Raksha Bandhan, etc…………………..
