The Columbian Exchange was an exchange of goods and diseases between the Old World and the New World. It was named after Christopher Columbus. The Native Americans received new crops, animals and iron tools. The Native Americans were exposed to new, deadly diseases such as whooping cough and smallpox. They were also taken as slaves. The Europeans received new animals, crops like tobacco, farming and hunting techniques, and medicine. They also began using natives as slaves.

Exit Card Are the effects of the Columbian Exchange more negative or more positive? Explain, using specific evidence from today’s lesson.
