Biochemistry Organic compounds contain carbon ex: glucose C6H12O6 Inorganic compounds don’t contain carbon ex: water H2O

Macromolecules: large molecules made of simpler molecules Monomers – small molecules which link together to form polymers Polymers – large molecules made of chains of monomers

Dehydration Synthesis: combining monomers to make polymers by removing water

Hydrolysis: breaking apart polymers by adding water

ATP - adenosine triphosphate: molecule which stores energy for cells breaking off the 3rd phosphate releases energy putting the 3rd phosphate back on stores energy
