ANOREXIA ANOREXIA IS THE RESENTLESS PURSUIT OF THINNESS

1. CAUSE OR EFFECT OF THIS DISEASE… There is no single cause of anorexia but some things play a part. Some underlying causes may include: culture, families, life changes or stressful events, personality traits, biology and social issues. The physical symptoms may include:

2. TREATMENT OR RECCOMENDATIONS Anorexia is treated at the stage the patient is at. If they are severe, hospitalization is required’ Medication can be needed to relieve depression and anxiety. It is important that a nutritionist is there to change old patterns and create healthier, new ones. RECOVERY: is when they have maintained their normal body weight, in women regular menstrual cycles and elimination of major food fears. It takes a long time to recover, but with treatment, a few people recover within a year or less if they stick to it.

3. PREVENTION OF ANOREXIA There is no prevention for anorexia, but one must look out for the warning signs which may include: skipping meals, preoccupied with fat and calorie content, shows anxiety before eating and guilt after eating, exercise behaviors, emotional behaviors, appearance or body image behaviour. Someone with anorexia needs to be helped as soon as possible, because they longer they wait, the longer the road to recovery.

4. MEAL PLAN It is very important that a healthy diet is followed, and that the patient eats a variety of foods, including plenty of vegetables and fruit and not too much fat or added sugar.

5. CONCLUSION Anorexia is when a person is OBSESSED with being thin. They are terrified of gaining weight. People who are mostly affected with anorexia are teenage girls because of the pressure they have from their society and school. There is no prevention of this disease, but it is very important that one must look out for the warning signs. However, a person with anorexia can get better with the help of a health care team, support from their family and friends.

Anorexia is a very serious disease and can have devastating effects if they person is not treated.
