Cause and Effect 3rd grade, Language Arts

Cause and Effect The cause is why something happens. The effect is what happens

Causal Indicators Cause and effect relationships are often signaled by causal indicators, words such as because, since, therefore, and so

Teacher Page Objective: The learner will review cause and effect. Activity: The learner will read, write in journals, and discuss a cause and effect as observed in common changes. Procedure: View slides, write in reflection journal, and discuss with parents and teacher.

Most things on earth change.

Animals change. How are animals different? How are animals alike?

Changes have different causes. What are some changes on this page?

What caused this change? Write the cause in your writing journal.

What did you write? Discuss with partner, parent, or teacher.

What will happen to the caterpillar? Share with a partner or parent.

Did you guess that it would become a butterfly? What caused this change?

In the life cycle of the butterfly it changes from an egg to a caterpillar to a cocoon and finally to a butterfly.

One day Misty saw a bird beside a puddle One day Misty saw a bird beside a puddle. Later both the bird and puddle were missing.

What happened to the bird?

It probably flew away.

What happened to the puddle? What state of matter changed?

The water in the puddle may have evaporated. Liquid water changed to gas

Name 2 possible causes for the change in the puddle. Heat from the sun. Wind moving the air.
