Delvene Boso – on behalf of WorldFish and colleagues, Solomon Islands Securing widespread community livelihoods and resilience through coastal co-management Delvene Boso – on behalf of WorldFish and colleagues, Solomon Islands

WorldFish: long history of engagement in Pacific and specifically in SI. CBRM (and other forms of co-management) fundamental aspect of the global program of work The partnership: WorldFish is committed to improving resource governance for the benefit of the people. Committed partnership with government, LMMA network, NGOs and community networks. A principle of our work is to improve the representation of, and accountability to, community, fisher and fisheries value chain actors – with an emphasis on empowering women and youth The co-investment: Support from an Oak Foundation grant of USD50K for hosting of a ‘multi-stakeholder forum’ to promote community voice in addressing internal and external drivers of community and fisheries concern Support from current ACIAR project (FIS/2016/300) adds to a long commitment to work with the ministry to build capacity and commitment towards community-based approaches to management of coastal resources Support from the WorldFish led FISH CRP ensures strategic and informed approaches to multi-stakeholder platforms/networks, scaling, gender and women’s empowerment

Objective 1: Enable the provincial fisheries offices to respond to threats and build opportunities in coastal fisheries (component C)

Activities: 1.a. Improve information sharing between communities and provincial fisheries office (community meetings, women’s forum, tap into/support existing national and provincial networks) 1.b. Form multi-sectoral team to address community complaints – assessing/building on existing network structures 1.c. Refocus provincial government strategy, planning and budget (work plans, collaborative implementation, action research)

Objective 2. Strengthen existing community networking to address threats and build opportunities in coastal fisheries (component B)

Activities: 2.a. Ensure community concerns and complaints are heard at the national level (e.g., annual coastal fisheries forum, annual women in resource management forum, increase representation in existing national, provincial networks) 2.b. Enhance capacity of community groups, particularly existing women's groups, to address threats to coastal fisheries (learning-exchange meetings) 2.c. Participatory action research on threats to coastal fisheries (e.g., impacts of logging on coastal fisheries)
