2011 SIGnetwork Regional Meeting Susan Bailey-Anderson Director, Montana SPDG

Montana RTI Partnership A Community of Practice In the Beginning…. Where people know each other… Relationships have been good over time… OPI considered the relationship with the field as an asset

Set Strategic Context Formulating a New Way of Interacting RTI Implementation framed a new way of interacting Stakeholders suggested a more active role Participate in the OPI led work…and See: ‘What Else…” Stakeholders, led by School Administrators of MT (SAM) suggest : that they might use their own networks to bring info beyond the current reach of the OPI initiative that they might help the other districts’ get ready’ to participate That they might have a more direct and open relationship with district staff that could be useful

Educate Reactions in OPI We are already doing a lot with the field… What exactly do people want? What would this look like? Does this mean we would give up leadership? What about our current plans? Other….

Educate Reactions by Stakeholders We have a lot of networks that could be useful in spreading information OPI is doing a lot..but cannot reach all the schools that need information We could do things at our meetings and in our communications that could help schools and help OPI explain RTI Why can’t we be a part of this????

Get Going The Stakeholder Council Defining what a new relationship that builds on the strengths of both OPI and the stakeholders Meetings Conference calls December, 2009: The first extended stakeholder meeting The Council Concept: Send out information together Support the current OPI work Build the stakeholder group Include the range of stakeholders Use the stakeholder networks as part of the ‘official ‘process

Integrate How Is It Going…… Routine Meetings Inclusive participation New collaborations… Survey to inform the SPDG application Bring the Council into the SPDG planning and implementation Stakeholders bringing RTI into their meetings and communications Plan for ongoing leadership This year SAM state office leads Next year Secondary Principals lead

Integrate and Support Impact on Established Roles… Subtle pressure for greater collaboration inside OPI divisions… Realize that there is a vehicle where the work of all divisions is being shared Realize that the stakeholder expect greater collaboration Realize that through the Council many of the plans that get caught up in ‘red tape’ can be actualized more quickly…and with the full participation of those intended to be reached!

Encourage and Support What Could It Become….. Just how does working this way facilitate outcomes….. A vision for the future…. From OPI From the Stakeholder Council Coming March 2, 2011 Montana’s CoP on Integrated School Mental Health
