Focus Question: How did Empires affect the geography of the Fertile Crescent? (Part 2)

The Benefits of Empire Empires united many kingdoms into one government that was ruled by an “iron-fisted” Emperor, who often made claims to being divine, or like God! The conquerors introduced new technology, resources and culture to the conquered city-states; A sense of common heritage (shared beliefs and common interests) developed;

The Detriments of Empire: Empires often brought hardship and suffering to other city-states; They conquered citizens felt like “second-class citizens,” that is, they were made to feel lower than others, which did not inspire them to contribute to the growth of the empire; The conquered people had to compromise or give up their beliefs and customs for those of the empire.
