10/31 Topic: Time to Research Aim: How do I research? Do Now: Take your folder
Research Process – Steps 3 & 4 Reading & Hi-Lighting Problem Action Impact
Research Process- Step #5 How do I make a fact card (white index card, p. 15 in handout)? Take the information you hi-lighted and write it on a white index card Put the information into your own words . . . . PARAPHRASE
Research Process- Step #5 1 note per card . . make sure you include dates Source number & page number appear on card You MUST paraphrase it, which means putting the information into your own words. You CAN NOT just copy it from the source to the fact card (white index card).
Citable Information As you research make sure you find citable information and mark the cards What do I cite? Information you are not going to paraphrase or unique information Statistics, quotes, speeches, specific details from an event, interview, etc . . . Two to three per body paragraph – 5 to 10

Research Where are the articles located & supplies? Only take one article at a time . . Source #1, Source #2 . . . Go in order Remember the steps in the research process . . . You must follow them.
Research Don’t make duplicate fact cards Use the resources we have given you By the end of today you should have at least 2 sources done This is NOT a group activity . . . Testing Environment
Clean Up/Homework Finish Source 2 for Homework Put in Your Folder: Sources that you used & Completed Cards (rubber band them together) Red 8 Research Packet Extra Index Cards, High lighter Put your folder back in the box. Do NOT take it home.
