Classroom Newsletter November 30th, 2018 Mrs. Morrison, Rm. 5 Classroom Newsletter November 30th, 2018 Dates to Remember 12/24 – 1/4 Last class: 12/21 First class back: 1/7 Classroom News This week we wrapped up our learning about neighborhoods. The kids got to make a frieze of Mercer Island and it turned out so cool! I will take pictures and send it. I usually hang the frieze up on the wall, but this was so detailed that it was too heavy for the wall. I hope you all had a wonderful break, I know I did. Lots of great time with family, relaxation and a little bit of catch up. Thank you so much for understanding my absence. Ashlyn was very sick, but is much better now. She even went back to school on Friday! Yay!! Tim is wrapping up his first quarter for school and is looking forward to a break as well. The kids were great while I was gone, the substitute teachers absolutely adored them! They were great helpers and listeners. When I came back it was as if I never left. Thank you to our lovely art docent, Shivani and Monica for coming in! We had so much do our birch trees and we can not wait to show you what we created. See and Say Words What We’re Learning One Many good What We’re Learning Reading: We are learning about firefighters and how they help our community. Continuing to Ask questions and find our answers in the text.  Look for words we may not know and try and find the definition. Look at the pictures and read the text, what information does the picture give us that the text does not? What information doe the text give us that the pictures do now?  Math: Finding an unknown partner - they can count on from one partner to the total to find the missing partner, they can use their fingers.  For examples 2+__=4  Writing: We wrote about a person in our family.  We are working on correct capitalization in the beginning of the sentence and appropriate punctuation at the end.  We talked about the explanation point, when to use it.  If we add an exclamation point, we are really excited, scared or angry about something.  We usually have a louder voice when using one.  Math Practice Finding the missing partner Spelling: Writing the letter h Social Studies: Neighborhoods Social Studies: We are going into science, but what we have been doing is social studies is learning about different types of neighborhoods, urban (city), Suburban (town), rural (country).  What kind of neighborhood do we live in? How do you know? We also made a frieze of our neighborhood we live in. It was pretty cool! Our classroom is a nut free environment. Please make sure to not pack any nuts in snacks or lunches.
