Presentation transcript:

SCIE’s work on cost-effectiveness in social care Working with stakeholders to develop an evidence base Many gaps in the evidence - and methodological challenges Building on: Our academic links and other partnerships Our own (developing) economics expertise Our experience of disseminating research findings Our accessible website Our new Good Practice Framework

SCIE’s work programme on economic evaluation Seeking to incorporate economic evaluation into our assessment of what constitutes good practice Aiming to publish a series of briefings on the theme of “prevention” in 2010 and 2011 Starting with a briefing on reablement – incorporating new findings from PSSRU - in autumn 2010

SCIE’s work in partnership with other national agencies Meeting regularly with key partners – e.g. DH, ADASS, LGID, Audit Commission, CQC – to plan a co-ordinated approach Taking stock of the evidence that already exists, and of the areas that require further research/investigation Co-ordinating our work both to collect and to disseminate relevant evidence and information Aiming to develop a web-based information hub on cost-effectiveness in adult social care

Efficiency and personalisation Working with DH to collect evidence about emerging successful practice: Is personalisation delivering better value for money? What is the impact on costs? Are processes being streamlined? How are markets responding? Using SCIE’s Good Practice Framework to assess and disseminate the evidence Aiming to complete by end of October
