Critical Element: Evaluation “Take a step back, evaluate what is important, and enjoy life.” Teri Garr Critical Element: Evaluation Evaluation, is the final critical element of the Benchmarks of Quality. Evaluation is an ongoing process and requires data from several different sources.

Benchmarks of Quality Evaluation Evaluation consists of numbers 49 – 52 on the Benchmarks of Quality, and addresses how the team can assess the success of PBIS on the campus as well as receive feedback for progress monitoring and adjusting the action plan as needed. Take a look at the Scoring Standards. This will tell you what the expectations are for each of these components. Some campuses have used external coaches to evaluate how they are doing in each area.

Benchmarks of Quality (Revised)— Scoring Guide

Monitor Implementation Do we have the right information? Should we survey staff and students? What is our evaluation tool? Campuses should monitor their implementation plan for fidelity and determine what next steps are required to keep the process rolling. Many times, it will take additional information than typically collected from the data system. This can include a survey, small focus group, or the collection of additional data. Another important aspect of monitoring is to use a consistent monitoring tool. The Review 360 software has a monitoring tool in place that is ready to use and aligns to what we have discussed these past two days.

Expectations and Rules Accountability Staff Accountability Reward System Expectations and Rules Referral Process Accountability of staff is important to ensure all staff are moving forward in the same process and system. Monitoring and staff training will need to be ongoing. Reward system: Is it being used appropriately, consistently, and related to school-wide expectations? Expectations and rules: Do most staff (>80%) know the school-wide expectations? Referral Process: Are teachers using the referral process appropriately?

Evaluation Tools Staff PBS Support Survey Example 1 Self Assessment Survey (SAS) PBS Student Survey School Safety Survey

Next Steps Complete Action Plan for Evaluation. Review survey tools. Develop Action Plan based on the current status of the BoQ. Create surveys that evaluate staff opinions and needs.

Action Planner It’s time to complete the action planner for the critical element Evaluation. Fill in your Benchmarks of Quality scores from items 49 – 53 that you completed earlier. Your team now needs to determine a priority level for each one. Remember, as a team you will not be able to focus on everything in which you may have scored low or that you need to adjust to be more effective on your campus. Your team will have to determine what is most important so that those things can be addressed first. There may be some items you will not be able to focus on until next year, and that is okay. Once you’ve determined what your priorities are, fill in the bottom of the action plan. This is where you will state what items need to be completed, by whom, and when they will be completed. You will evaluate your action plan at the end of each year, complete a new Benchmarks of Quality, and record it online in PBIS Assessments so that you will have yearly access to your data. You will then complete a new action plan at the end of the year to continue making improvements or addressing items based on your current assessment so that your team will have a current action plan going into the new school year.
