Assignment 2: Activity 2 Produce a written report to explain how software utilities can improve the performance of Computer Systems. Select 3-4 utilities (e.g. Disk cleanup, compression tools, system cleaners, firewalls or anti-virus software). (500 words max) Explain the term performance and how poor performance can be recognised by a user E.g. response time (time to boot, load a program, etc.) Include the resources that are affected e.g. Hard disk, speed and space Internet Bandwidth, System reliability and security. Identify utilities that can improve performance and explain how they improve performance with reference to components that are enhanced. You should include your own measureable tests where performance (speed, reliability) is tested (e.g. before and after tests /timed tests booting a PC, space saving within a hard disk or Internet throughput) or benchmarking to add supporting evidence to your report.
