How can we use electricity safely? 03 May 2019 How can we use electricity safely? Key terms: fuse and circuit breaker Develop: I can describe why electricity is a hazard and label diagrams of wires and plugs. I can describe ways to reduce the risks of electricity. I can explain what fuses and circuit breakers are and why we use them. Secure: Exceed: I can assessed errors on given wired plugs. Starter: What are hazards? What are risks?

Using electricity safely Secure: Label these diagrams: Using electricity safely Develop: What is a fuse? Develop: Why do we have circuit breakers? ‘Fuse box’ containing circuit breakers Develop: List the ways we can reduce the risks. Secure: Why is electricity a hazard? Exceed: Collect the practice question from the front of the classroom.

Stretch and challenge: The two mistakes are: 1) the strands of the live wire are not connected properly. (frayed wire) 2) the outer wire which contains the inner 3 wires must be secured by the cable grip.

Develop: Secure: Exceed: Confidence Check I can describe why electricity is a hazard and label diagrams of wires and plugs. I can describe ways to reduce the risks of electricity. I can explain what fuses and circuit breakers are and why we use them. Secure: Exceed: I can assessed errors on given wired plugs. Assess pupils by asking them to express their confidence in their achievement from 1-5 for the lesson aims.
