RDMS Concert & Cadet Bands Welcome to the RDMS Music Department Family! New musical challenges Diverse and more complex repertoire Concentration on tone through musical interpretation and expression Encouragement to be the best player possible!

Instruments Students responsible for all supplies necessary for their individual instrument Instruments need to be in good working condition at all times Percussionists should have sticks and a drum pad or snare drum to practice on. All instrument cases must be labeled with students’ name Students are expected to have their instrument and music folder on their assigned band day.

Skills Acquired in Band Collaborative – students work as a team Problem solving – How to make the music and individual instrumental parts sound better? Higher Order Thinking – Analysis, synthesis, evaluation Musical and behavioral discipline Organization & Responsibility Students transfer skills to academic world!!!

Social Skills Acquired in Band Students develop confidence! Self Esteem improves A sense of belonging develops – Students are part of the RDMS music family Ability to communicate with students and teachers Tolerance and respect for all!

Schedule Students will have a small group band class once every 4 day rotation during their physical education class Students will not be penalized for any activities they miss in gym or health Extended Full Group Rehearsals will be scheduled for each band to rehearse as complete ensembles

Practicing Practicing breeds success!!!! Students should practice 30 minutes per day, five days a week Set reasonable practice goals. A little time on the instrument is better than none! Private lessons can really make the difference! A wonderful investment in learning. Contact Mrs. Zintel for teacher recommendations.

Bergen County Band Auditions: October 16, 2018 Applications due: September 26th! Fantastic opportunity for strong instrumentalists Participating students perform more advanced repertoire Students bring Bergen County Band experiences back to the RDMS band

All North Jersey Region I Jr. High School Band Another outside ensemble opportunity Auditions February 2, 2019 Band students across the Northern New Jersey area grades 7-9 are eligible Rehearsals and performance take place in February/March 2019

School Wires & One Note Course Expectations document Rehearsal and performance schedules will be posted Bergen County and Region Band information Audio files for band repertoire will be posted in One Note for student access

Concerts After school rehearsals in November/December – All students are expected to be present Two evening concerts Dates: December 13th and May 2nd

Break in the day! Kids have fun in band and music is great for the soul! Nice break from the academic world when students express themselves and develop their playing skills! Students are encouraged to seek extra help to catch up on their instrumental skills

Communication Students and parents can contact Mrs. Zintel at any time with concerns or questions. Email is great!!! Students are encouraged to communicate if they are having any difficulties. Always better to talk things out!!!
