Driving Green to Sustainability Welcome – we’re glad to have you with us here in Dearborn. Today’s forum gives us the opportunity to give you a deep dive into Ford’s fuel efficiency and CO2 strategy. Don Cobb Government Sales Manager - NE NYCLHVCC Roundtable February 22, 2012

Ford’s Path to Sustainability 2007 2011 2020 2030 Near Term Mid Term Long Term Continue leverage of Hybrid technologies & deployment of alternative energy sources Begin migration to advanced technology Full implementation of known technology Near Term Mid Term Long Term Fuel Cells Electrified Vehicles Advanced Gasoline Engines Hydrogen Powered Engines Hybrids Weight Reduction Natural Gas

Alternative Fuels Welcome – we’re glad to have you with us here in Dearborn. Today’s forum gives us the opportunity to give you a deep dive into Ford’s fuel efficiency and CO2 strategy.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Reduces dependence on foreign oil Provides performance similar to gasoline or diesel Burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel Infrastructure not widespread Fast-fill stations are expensive to build and face regulatory hurdles Time-fill stations are useful for fleets Home fueling not yet practical

Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) Reduces dependence on foreign oil Provides performance similar to gasoline or diesel Burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel Turns waste into fuel Infrastructure not vehicle-oriented Exists for other uses Some concern with cold-weather performance

Ethanol Locally sourced Easily distributed through existing channels Burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel Sourcing is controversial Using food crops raises concern Well to Wheels environmental impact Even when it’s available, customers choose gasoline

Biodiesel Waste to fuel Easily distributed through existing channels Provides excellent energy density Quality is not standardized Purity of any diesel fuel is critical Many types of biodiesel are possible Cold weather performance suspect

Sustainable Materials Welcome – we’re glad to have you with us here in Dearborn. Today’s forum gives us the opportunity to give you a deep dive into Ford’s fuel efficiency and CO2 strategy. 8

Renewables/Biomaterials Poly Lactic Acid (fabric, resin, carpet) Biobased Resins Natural Fiber thermosets thermoplastics Soy foams thermoset resin fillers Hemp Switch grass Flax Natural Fiber Reinforced Plastics Description: Use of natural fibers such as hemp, coconut coir and cellulose in place of glass fibers for plastic reinforcement. Benefit: Up to 30% weight reduction of part. Wheat Straw Bio-Filled Polypropylene – Industry and World-first usage in Quarter trim bins on 2010 Ford Flex Reduces petroleum usage by some 20,000 pounds per year and reduces CO2 emissions by 30,000 pounds per year Soybeans Ford specifies renewable materials where function and cost are maintained or improved 9

EnviroSeat: Sustainable Components natural fiber reinforced PP More than 56% of customers who purchased a new vehicle in 2009 considered the “Environmental Friendliness” of the manufacturer to be “Very Important” or “Extremely Important” in their decision making (NVCS, 2009)

The Power of Choice Ford chooses to address sustainability issues in the products we make, how we make them and the people who are impacted by them. We understand that consumers have these same choices. We strive to offer mobility solutions that support our customers, both present and future. Mood slide to shift from conflict minerals and water to more positive recap of presentation. Just a start, a lot to accomplish Meeting w/ NGO’s fundamental human right be more community minded how we use water, make water become safer goes beyond how we use it in mfg reduce water use How do we impact the local community? may be different for different locations waste water 11 11
