* PSO-HNS was founded in 1947 PANHELLENIC SOCIETY OF OTOLARYNGOLOGY - HEAD AND NECK SURGERY (PSO-HNS) * PSO-HNS was founded in 1947 * PSO-HNS has an Executive Council of 9 members (President: Prof. J. Bizakis) * Holds its Annual Meeting in mid-October * Counts 1450 active members * Residents are not members of the Association The PSO-HNS was founded in 1979 ……. except of the resident

ENT Doctors in Greece today: Approx. 1450 specialists (Women 308 21,25%) Approx. 217 trainees ENTs/inhabitants ratio: 1/7.793 There are approximately 1450 specialist. 20% of which are women And 220 trainees The ratio ENT doctor per inhabitants is about one per 7 thousands eight hundreds people

Doctors in ENT in Greece today: 988(68%): ENT are doing private practice 433(30%): Are in Public Sector 29(2%): Are in University Dpts.

UNDERGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION Greece has 7 Medical Schools: 1. Athens (Attica), 2. Thessaloniki (Central Macedonia), 3. Ioannina (Epirus), 4. Larissa (Thessaly), 5. Patras (Peloponnisos), 6. Alexandroupolis (Thrace), 7. Heraklion (Crete). Now about the undergraduate medical education

1 semester Ped. Otorhinolaryngology ENT Residency Program in Greece 5 yrs Training Program 1 yr General Surgery 3 yrs ENT 1 semester Plastic Surgery and 1 semester Ped. Otorhinolaryngology the program lasts 5 years and includes 1 year

ENT Residency Program in Greece · There are not exams to start the program. · There are not obligatory exams during the program. · There are final exams to get the specialty ''The EBE-ORL -HNS exam is  recognized as an additional qualification but specialists are not certified with the "Diploma of the European Board of Otorhinolaryngology” I would like to note that the dimploma of European Board is  recognized as an additional qualification but the doctor who has obtained this diploma can not be certified as ENT specialists

Recently the Health Authorities started thinking that the Residency Program has to be organized by the National Scientific Societies

Medical Migration it is estimated that: 18,000 doctors have migrated from Greece, during the crisis Lack of residents in many specialties Causes of migration: unemployment after residency, overpopulation of doctors in Greece, better salaries in other countries…. a total of 18,000 doctors have migrated from Greece during the crisis we have Lack of residents in many specialties

We hope in the next years to stop the ''brain drain''
