Euthanasia By Paul Annison CRE 101

Introduction What is Euthanasia: Euthanasia is the process of painlessly helping a terminally ill person to die. Known also as assisted suicide or mercy killing, euthanasia is illegal for humans in the United States. Generally, euthanasia is performed by lethal injection, using the same drugs as those on death row are executed. There are many different view points on this subject on whether or not this procedure should be legal. The next few slides will go over those different points of argument.

Arguments Opposing There are two reasons why euthanasia should not be legalized. One, allowing the practice would undermine society's respect for human life and death. Second, legalizing euthanasia would damage medicine by transforming doctors from healers into killers.

Supporting The patient has the right to choose for his or her self whether or not they want to be Euthanized.

Analyzing Cartoons In this cartoon, there is a doctor asking the patient if he is nervous about be euthanized because he has probably never done it before. The funny thing is that he is about to be killed so it would be impossible for him to have done this procedure before. The claim is that this patient is about to be put to death and he will not be able to take back his decision once the button is pushed by the doctor.

Analyzing Cartoons Continued This cartoon is showing a doctor with his patient as the patient is about to be euthanized and hopes there will be any side affects from the pill. The claim to this cartoon is that the patient is not well enough in his head to be making such a huge decision.

Analyzing Cartoons Continued This cartoon is showing a man driving to a euthanasia clinic a dangerously thin road that curves a lot and the sign tells him to drive carefully. The claim on this one is that the man is going to kill himself anyways so why should he drive carefully.

Conlusion Euthanasia has its pro’s and it’s cons. It is something that has been an issue for along time and will always be an issue. It is an issue that deals with the lives of real human lives and therefore is not a decision that should just be made without much thought.
