Simple Machines By Mr. Steven King

What is a simple machine? It is a tool that makes work easier to do. It changes the size or direction of a force. This is an example of an inclined plane. It makes it easier to move items up and down.

Levers and Wedges A lever is something like a crowbar or hammer. You can use it as a wedge to lift or pry something open. We use a wedge to keep open the door.

Lifting That Heavy Load! A pulley is a simple machine. In the olden days, pulleys were used to get water out of a well.

Simple Machines You Use Do you like riding your bike? Did you know that this is also a simple machine? It’s called a wheel and axle!

The Screw A screw is an inclined plane wrapped around on itself. It holds things together, like parts of a table leg.
