PARABLES OF THE KINGDOM - Part V The Parable of the Leavened Meal Text: Matthew 13:33

This parable cannot be understood by taking it apart unless we build one thought upon the previous one. There Are Essentially 3 Main Parts to this Parable.

I. THE LEAVEN “But Lot insisted so strongly that they followed him into his house. He prepared a feast for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.” Genesis 19:3 Berean Study Bible

I. THE LEAVEN A. Lot - “But Lot insisted so strongly that they followed him into his house. He prepared a feast for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.” Genesis 19:3 Berean Study Bible

I. THE LEAVEN B. EXODUS - "For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must be cut off from Israel. 16. On the first day hold a sacred assembly and another one on the seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare food for everyone to eat - that is all you may do.” Exodus 12:15,16

I. THE LEAVEN B. EXODUS – “Celebrate the Feast Unleavened Bread, because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt. Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. 18. In the first month you are to eat bread without yeast, from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first day. Exodus 12:17,18

I. THE LEAVEN B. EXODUS – “For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And whoever eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel, whether he is alien or native-born. 20. Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live, you must eat unleavened bread." Exodus 12:19,20

I. THE LEAVEN C. LAW - There were strict laws that prevented leaven from being used in many types of offerings and sacrifices. 1. Blood/Leaven "Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast.“ Exodus 34:25

I. THE LEAVEN C. LAW - There were strict laws that prevented leaven from being used in many types of offerings and sacrifices. 2. Fire "Every grain offering you bring to the LORD must be made without yeast, for you are not to burn any yeast or honey in an offering made to the LORD by fire.“ Leviticus 2:11

I. THE LEAVEN C. LAW - There were strict laws that prevented leaven from being used in many types of offerings and sacrifices. Honey was a type of men seeking their own glory. Perhaps that is why Jesus said, "I seek not mine own glory." John 6:38 KJV

I. THE LEAVEN D. JESUS' TEACHING "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy." Luke 12:1

I. THE LEAVEN D. JESUS' TEACHING "Be careful,” Jesus warned them. "Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod." Mark 8:15

I. THE LEAVEN E. PAUL'S TEACHING ``Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? 7. Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast - as you really are. I Corinthians 5:6,7

I. THE LEAVEN E. PAUL'S TEACHING 8. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth." I Corinthians 5:8

II. THE WOMAN As a Kingdom "Sit in silence, go into darkness, queen city of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms.” Isaiah 47:5

II. THE WOMAN As a City “I will destroy Daughter Zion, so beautiful and delicate.” Jeremiah 6:2

II. THE WOMAN C. As a Church 2. False Church – “Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.” Revelation 2:20

III. THE THREE MEASURES OF MEAL "So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. 'Quick,' he said, 'get three seahs (22 litres) of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread." Genesis 18:6

III. THE THREE MEASURES OF MEAL Gideon – “Gideon went inside, prepared a young goat, and from an ephah of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak.” Judges 6:19

THE THREE MEASURES OF MEAL Ezekiel – “In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, you shall have the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten.  24. “He shall provide as a grain offering an ephah with a bull, an ephah with a ram and a hin of oil with an ephah.” Ezekiel 45:21,24
