Science 7

“The Nature of Science” Each puzzle piece represents current scientific data

“Nature of Science”

“Nature of Science” Each puzzle piece represents current scientific data, when I gave you the “x” piece, I was introducing a new discovery to the current data How is this similar to doing science?

“Nature of Science” You assumed the pieces fit together in some way (just like science and nature is a puzzle we have not yet solved) Trial and Error: you had to try many different ways before you found a way that fit New information may require the old theory to be modified or discarded OR Our current information may be incomplete and therefore our theories are incorrect Sometimes we get lucky and find the right answer Collaboration may be helpful Once we find the answer it seems to make perfect, elegant sense You had to test your ideas using hands on manipulation- just like laboratory exercises

Let’s Chat! What is science?? What do scientists do??

Activity Using paper provided and the ideas discussed earlier, create a title page for your science binder. Please remember to put your name, the date and your class number at the bottom right of the page When completed please show Mrs. Carter for assessment and your next activity
