He resists arrest and is killed; 1810-Father Hidalgo calls for Mexico’s independence and is captured and executed; 1811-1813-Gutierrez and Magee lead the Republican Army of the North to invade Texas and declare it independent; Bloodiest battle ever fought in Texas when the Republican Army is defeated and the Gutierrez-Magee Expedition fails; 1819-Dr. James Long leads an army to invade Texas to make it independent. The Spanish forced Long to surrender and he is killed while under arrest. These events lead to Spain losing its possessions in North America and the independence of Mexico from Spain.
