AND NOW HOW TO WRITE A PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE IN SIX SIMPLE PARAGRAPHS

IT MIGHT SEEM OBVIOUS AND IT IS! THERE ARE NO TRICKS AND HIDDEN QUESTIONS. I GAVE YOU A SCRIPT. YOU PUT ON A PERFORMANCE. HOW DID YOU GET TO THIS POINT?

PARAGRAPH ONE Tell us The script title The playwright What it is about Two sentences is enough

PARAGRAPH TWO What did you find out about your play to help you play your character better ? The place The time period The playwright What inspired the playwright? Or anything else you had to look up to help play your character Or did you talk to anyone to help play your character?

PARAGRAPH THREE Describe your character. Who are they? How old are they? What is their status? What is their main motivation? What is their most important relationship? What other important information do you have?

NOTE OF TRES IMPORTANCE!!! PARAGRAPH FOUR How do you propose you are going to perform this character? NOTE OF TRES IMPORTANCE!!! If you write one thing and act another you will faaaaaaail. Don’t do this. Please. WHAT MOVEMENT ARE YOU USING? WHAT VOICE ARE YOU USING? Body language Facial expression Gesture Naturalistic Stylised Eye contact Posture Balance Speed Timing Use of level Use of space Positioning Mannerisms Stance Use of direction Accent Pace Volume Clarity Emphasis Pitch Pause Articulation Fluency Intonation register

PARAGRAPH SIX How did you come to these decisions? What did you do to develop them? Think: character cards, improvisation, role play, hot seating, voices in the head, writing in role, thought tracking, thought tunnel.

CONCLUSION Write one sentence to round off “It is through the research, rehearsal activities and development of my acting that I have come to portray Annie as a vicious, bitter and twisted orphan interested in nothing more than social climbing.”
