Continued… Pictures and graphs to keep attention Keep instructions short and clear Slight touch on should to get attention Praise for good behavior I chose these accommodations because according to (Amanda Morin) they play a part in helping with classroom learning, organization, classwork and test, in class learning, and behavior. I think my teaching will need to be scaled up but not so much that I would be going out of my way.

Continued… According to 23 Ways to Accommodate Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome in the Classroom, these accommodations work for children with autism but you have to find the one that fits best with that child individually. I think here my work would be scaled up but again not as much because with younger students you have to be specific and give simple instructions reminding our self to think as though they have no schema.

Continued… According to (Carmen Willing) the purpose of an accommodation is to level the playing field and NOT provide unfair advantage over others. Also The purpose of accommodations is to decrease or to eliminate the interference from the disability. This teaching will also be scaled up because I will have to make separate sheets for the visually impaired students. Also give them oral testing while others are taking test on the paper.

Teacher Support Online training through a course called Why Inclusions Works in Educational Setting is a good training. It explains the fundamental principles of inclusion, how to recognize inclusive environments within the educational setting, and identifying the misconception surrounding inclusion through empirical research. I think this would be a great way to learn how to include exceptional learners in the general Ed classroom. Another great resource is SERGE which stands for Special Education Resources for General Educators. Their standards are to further articulate the information and activities that general classroom educators need to address the needs of students with disabilities in the regular classroom and the connects general classroom teachers with many of the excellent resources available for classroom teachers from governmental and non-profit resources

Summary In the beginning I didn’t realize all the different type of exceptional learners there could be. I learned about IEP’s, IFSP, and RTI. This is important because at least one student in my classroom during my teaching career will have an IEP. I will have to involve their family and find ways to help them improve in different aspects. I learned how the role of a teacher as well as a parent plays hand in hand. What children learn at home they possess those same skills at school and vice versa. I think a great way to help my students achieve is to use the self monitoring technique overall. I think all students need to know their worth and their potential. I’m very adamant in showing students what road or lane they are in to see what kind of individual they are.

Continued… I also learned about barriers that causes students who have special gifts or talents seem to struggle. I have to make sure as an educator that I go the extra mile and get extra training or participate in professional development opportunities. This will help me to be a better educator for my students. The main goal is to touch as many students as possible. In order for me to do that I must know how to accommodate the different students I could come across and learn strategies that will help them fulfill their full potential.
